When Lino Manfrotto, an Italian photojournalist, began developing light holders and telescopic stands in the late 1960s, he probably had no idea that it would soon become a globally recognized and valued company. In 1972, Lino Manfrotto met Gilberto Battocchio, who himself worked in a metalworking company. In 1974, the company introduced its first tripod. From then on, things went steeply uphill and Manfrotto was soon able to put 11 production lines into operation. In 1989, Manfrotto was taken over by the British Vitec Group; the company's current headquarters are in Cassola, Italy. Today, Manfrotto still sells accessories for photographers and the film industry worldwide.
