upcycling

TÜV Rheinland has confirmed in a life cycle assessment that Feuerwear makes a major contribution to reducing the burden on the environment by upcycling fire hoses. Valuable energy and resources are saved that would otherwise be used to produce new materials.

The Material of Heroes

Firefighters save lives - and they have to be able to rely on their fire hoses. The hoses are pulled through mud and rubble, have withstood fire and heat and transported many thousands of cubic metres of water. Woven polyester on the outside, rubber on the inside - incredibly robust! The material is very tear-resistant (up to 15 tonnes tensile load). Extreme resistance to heat is a must in use! Tested after every use: 25 bar test pressure is required.

After every use, fire hoses are thoroughly tested. A test pressure of 25 bar must be reached - otherwise the hose is taken out of service. Feuerwear has set up grid boxes at fire stations all over Germany in which the valuable material is collected. Red and white are the main colors of Feuerwear products!

With a lot of experience and know-how, the Feuerwear team finds the right shape. Countless prototypes are sewn and tested by testers in everyday life. This haptic approach means that the finished product simply feels 'right' and can be used intuitively. This is clean, timeless design. New products are developed for a year. Time that is worth it! Only absolutely well-developed products earn the Feuerwear logo.

pre-production

The design is ready; now the fire hose is being prepared. Feuerwear works with its neighbors, the Cologne Social Enterprises (SBK). This enables people with disabilities to lead independent lives. The Feuerwear team is often on site and maintains a very close working relationship.

Sew

The carefully prepared semi-finished products are sewn at the GKG sewing shop in Serbia. They have a lot of experience in processing the unusual material of fire hose. Feuerwear offsets CO2 emissions generated during transport through “atmosfair” climate projects. The Feuerwear crew also visits here regularly and works closely together.
