When buying a school bag, it's not just the design that's important. Small children's backs don't yet have the strength to carry a heavy backpack and need an ergonomically shaped bag. A stable interior layout is just as important as well-fitting shoulder straps and, if possible, a waist belt, which can also be retrofitted to many models.

If you decide on a school bag set , you're killing several birds with one stone. The bag sets often come in 4 or 5 parts and usually consist of a school bag, a case for pens and/or a pencil case, a gym bag or sports bag and a neck pouch. Some cases are already equipped. This means that everything is there for a successful start and the design is always appropriate.
School backpacks
The requirements for school backpacks are similar to those for satchels and school bags. The cut and design may be more casual and are aimed at slightly older schoolchildren, but quality and ergonomics are still important. A good school backpack also has features that distribute the weight across the child's shoulders and back, thus minimizing the strain. A stable interior layout is just as important here as well-fitting shoulder straps and, if possible, a waist belt that stabilizes the school backpack on the child's back.
The right fit for the satchel
Every child develops differently and has a different size and posture. It is therefore important that the backpack can be individually adjusted and "grows with the child". This way, the school bag will be a great companion for several years.
An ergonomically shaped and well-padded back section is essential. The shoulder straps and hip belt should be infinitely adjustable to suit the individual body size. A hip belt relieves the shoulders by shifting the weight to the hips. The backpack should therefore have as little weight as possible.
- Basically, the backpack should sit horizontally and close to the body.
- The backpack should be worn above the buttocks and end at the shoulders. The correct height can be set using an adjustable back system.
- The hip belt should be worn on the hip bone, as this can relieve the strain on the shoulders.
- The shoulder straps must be tightened so that the backpack fits snugly against the body. The position control straps can be used to position the backpack closer to the body.
Attention: Shoulder straps that are too long or too short can put strain on the back and lead to poor posture.
Packing Correctly
School books, exercise books, pencil cases, art supplies and sports equipment, snacks and drinks. That adds up to a lot of weight that the little ones have to carry throughout the day. Pack heavy objects such as books as far back as possible, i.e. close to the back.
Books that are not needed should be left at home or at school. Light things like the pencil case can be packed at the front. Drinking bottles and lunch can be easily stored in the side and front pockets.
Tip
Make sure that your child carries the backpack over both shoulders. Carrying it by the handle on one side should also be avoided. Even distribution of the weight is essential, otherwise it can lead to poor posture and back injuries.
Security
The journey to school usually begins early in the morning when it is still dark. It is particularly important that your child is clearly visible in traffic. School bags should therefore have retroreflective and fluorescent surfaces.
According to DIN standard 58124, 10% of the front and side surfaces must be made of retroreflective material and 20% must be made of fluorescent orange-red or yellow. Other fluorescent colors such as green or purple, which also increase visibility, are not covered by this standard.
In addition, bright clothing, reflective bands on the arm or leg, and LED lights attached to the backpack increase visibility in traffic.
Care & Cleaning
School bags are used every day and have to endure a lot. Small stains can usually be removed with a damp cloth or a soft brush. If the bag is heavily soiled, it can be cleaned in the shower using a mild cleaning agent. It is best to clean the bag before the weekend or during the holidays. This allows the bag to dry properly.
