The story of CabinZero could not begin in a more classic way, because it is the story of the desire for improvement in an entrenched industry. So what could be more obvious than taking your luck into your own hands? This is the story of CabinZero, told by CEO Chief Travel Advisor Neil:

The story of CabinZero

India 1993: The world is in a recession, decent jobs are hard to come by. So I strapped a huge bag on my back, grabbed my passport and off I went. The trip was great and life-changing, but the bag honestly wasn't.

Just six months later, I was on the road again, but had swapped the useless bag for a large rigid-frame travel bag. Again, my great love of travel remained intact - but the travel bag did not. I spent the next year struggling with leaky suitcases, broken straps and massively oversized backpacks, wondering time and time again why no one had found a workable solution. Why was I letting my luggage dictate my journey - shouldn't it be the other way around?

A solution had to be found - and an idea was born

It took a total of three trips before Neil finally got rid of checked baggage and has only checked hand luggage ever since - and he still doesn't regret it one bit. Sure, compromises had to be made, but it was worth it. He realized one thing after a short time: smaller = better.

With rulers and folding rule...

Probably the bleakest moment in travel history: the day the airlines imposed restrictions on hand luggage. Paying just to check in your luggage? Experimenting with rulers and measuring tapes and also comparing the different carry-on baggage rules of different airlines? No way Neil.

However, there was one problem: there wasn't a single piece of hand luggage to be found anywhere in the UK or Asia that was adventure-proof enough to meet the high demands. So there was only one option: do it yourself!
