The new 4Seasons series is aimed at a younger target group. The leather in the series is drum-dyed and has no pigment layer on the surface. This leather is therefore referred to as open-pored. After dyeing, the leather is washed and then milled. These processes do not change the natural texture of the hide material and can still be recognized. These leathers are usually expensive. Only flawless hides are considered, as the surface structure of the leather remains completely visible. Natural characteristics such as growth marks, different structures, small scars and color differences underline the naturalness of the leather and should not be viewed as defects. Hides with fork punctures, tick bites, thorn cracks or horn bumps that are disturbingly prominent in the main areas of the leather are not considered. The special feature of open-pored leather is the feel: it is particularly soft, somewhat waxy and supple. It looks matt. In comparison to pigmented leather, open-pored leather requires more care. A drop of water rubbed onto the surface penetrates the leather and darkens the damp area, as the pores of the leather are not sealed. Open-pored leather is therefore more susceptible to dirt, as well as to discoloration caused by sunlight, and should therefore be treated regularly with a good waterproofing spray.
