At regular intervals, the well-known test magazines take a look at our most popular luggage series and put them through their paces. The handling, resilience, workmanship, material, features and price/performance ratio are assessed, among other things. The assessment of the handling of a piece of luggage is a subjective question; test teams get to work here, assessing, for example, the locking system, the telescopic handle and the stability of a test candidate in all situations. Factors such as resilience and workmanship are usually tested mechanically, for example in drop tests, which the candidates have to survive without major damage to corners and broad sides, or in running tests that simulate longer running distances on different surfaces. Last but not least, all suitcases are also tested for their water resistance and are rained on with a large amount of water for several minutes during such a test. The assessment is then carried out according to a set weighting in the well-known school grading system.

Suitcase Test Testmagazin 09/2009:

8 hard-shell suitcases (made of plastic) were tested, 4 of which were spinners and 4 uprights. Handling, durability, workmanship and features were assessed with different weightings in this test. Conclusion: buying a suitcase remains an individual decision. Spinners have proven themselves with their flexible wheels on flat surfaces, while uprights achieved better marks on uneven floors. Highly flexible polycarbonate suitcases proved to be the better alternative in terms of case load, but the telescopic rods of the polypropylene models were more resilient. The test winner is the Samsonite Pixelcube, which showed no significant weaknesses apart from water permeability at its zipper seams. The Samsonite Pixelcube impressed in both the drop and running tests, is of a high standard in terms of features and workmanship and is very easy to move. It received the rating "Good" with 91.3 points.

Suitcase Test Testmagazin 03/2012:

7 hard-shell suitcases and 6 soft-shell suitcases were tested, all with 4 wheels. The Samsonite Cubelite was the deserved test winner in the hard-shell suitcase category with a rating of "very good". Its high-quality workmanship, excellent handling and the high-tech Curv material, which also made it the lightest suitcase in the test, were convincing across the board. Close on its heels is the Rimowa Salsa Multiwheel , which suffered minor scratches in the drop and run test, but made up for this with its outstanding handling. Its convincing properties earned it 2nd place in the test. In the soft luggage category, the Samsonite Cordoba Duo earned 1st place, relegating the Hardware Ultralight and Cocoono Inspiration to 2nd and 3rd place, albeit only by a small margin. Conclusion: none of the models tested stood out negatively, all candidates are unreservedly suitable for short trips and longer journeys.

Suitcase test by Stiftung Warentest 06/2012:

17 suitcases were tested, including 6 hard-shell suitcases and 11 soft-shell suitcases. Handling, durability and workmanship were rated with different weightings. Conclusion: the Rimowa Salsa Air was recommended all round in the hard-shell category with a rating of "good" and the Delsey Expert Lite and Samsonite B-Lite series were recommended for soft luggage.
